The Connaught Place is named after the Duke of Connaught and Stratham by the Britishers. The British believed that this Horseshoe shaped circular market would be lucky for the shoppers and change the fortunes of the shopkeepers. This market has A to F blocks in the inner circle and G to P in the outer circle.
This circular market is actually a mix of colonnaded Georgian style buildings with mostly showrooms, cafes, bars, offices, Indian restaurants. The place has a number of small hotels along with a few five-star hotels.
It has a 1700s observatory Jantar Mantar with huge Astronomical Instruments.
